The Walrus is an award-winning independent magazine about Canada and its place in the world. We were engaged by The Walrus and their client sponsors to provide custom advertorial designs that work to communicate and support sponsor initiatives. Clients include: TD Canada Trust, Labatt, Pfizer, Government of Canada
While aligning with each brand's visual identity, our aim was to design unique pieces whose visuals helped tell that piece's story. We were able to inject creative spirit of The Walrus into each advertorial, creating a seamless transition from features to advertising for the magazine reader. In the process, we managed every stage or production from photoshoots and illustrations, to layout and writing.

While managing every stage of production, we injected the creative spirit of The Walrus into sponsored editorials, creating a seamless transition from features to advertising for the magazine reader.
The Walrus is an independent Canadian magazine known for its fact-based journalism and intellectual leadership. Styled as “Canada’s Conversation”, their editorial policy is described as ‘elevating public discourse on matters of importance to Canadians…”
Being a charity, The Walrus needs to support its sponsors and allow for their appearance in the publication. However, while these supplements are designed to achieve sponsor objectives, they must also align with the standards of the magazine and avoid diminishing its integrity.

To maintain a clear divide between the magazine editorial staff and any advertising projects, we provide a one-stop shop for branded editorials that appear in the magazine as stand-alone stories. We meet with partner organizations, arrange interviews, hire writers, editors, illustrators, and photographers and create press-ready files.
Working closely with the Walrus brand and digital teams, we created editorial layouts that match the calibre of the magazine while ensuring transparency for the reader. We’ve created over 175 pages of advertorial content in both print and web to help elevate the reader experience, and in the process have developed close-to decade-long strong relationship with the Walrus Foundation.
