The International Typeface Corporation (ITC), founded by Aaron Burns, Herb Lubalin and Edward Rondthaler was a type foundry that distributed new and revived classic typefaces.
They became so successful selling their typefaces to almost every manufacturer of phototypesetting equipment, that it became virtually impossible to avoid seeing their work. They were one of the first font providers to have no history with metal type design, fully embracing modern technology.
The company was founded in New York in 1970, and was later acquired by Esselte Letraset in 1986.
These are just some of their typeface specimen brochures.
Herb Lubalin designed the typeface ITC Avant Garde Gothic, which was originally used as the logogram for the Avant Garde, a magazine by Ralph Ginzburg.
In 1970, Herb Lubalin and the ITC produced Upper and lower case, a quarterly magazine that advertised and displayed ITC's latest typefaces. There was over 120 issues produced until its final issue release in 1999.
